The new play "The Secret of Mme. Bonnard's Bath" inspired a first-time collaboration among three fine arts organizations on Cape Ann, which have put together an exhibit titled "A Place of Her Own."

The exhibition features paintings by local artists living or working on Cape Ann, that depict women in their personal settings.

This art exhibition coincides with the world premiere of the new show by internationally acclaimed playwright Israel Horovitz. "The Secret of Mme. Bonnard's Bath" opens tonight at Gloucester Stage Company and runs through Aug. 27.

The art exhibit will be on display during the run of the play in the newly renovated lobby of Gloucester Stage, at 267 East Main St. The show is sponsored by the Gloucester Stage Company, the Rocky Neck Art Colony and the Society for the Encouragement of the Arts

"The play focusing on a painter was a perfect instance to inspire painters with a specific topic. Since seArts is dedicated to promoting collaboration in the arts for all of Cape Ann, the opportunity to work with Gloucester Stage and the Rocky Neck Art Colony is a joy," said Susan Erony, executive director of seArts.

Amanda Nash, president of the Rocky Neck Art Colony, also applauded the effort.

"Collaborating with our neighbor, Gloucester Stage, seems like a natural alliance. They have a beautiful space for showing artwork as well as an enviable reputation for productions," she said

Exhibition hours are Wednesday through Friday from 7 to 10 p.m., Saturday from 2 to 10 p.m., and Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. A public reception to meet the artists will be held tomorrow at 10 p.m., following the performance.

"Gloucester has such a rich artistic heritage and tradition in fine art that this is a great opportunity to share all these talents," Gloucester Stage spokeswoman Heidi Dallin said. "The art exhibit will showcase the Stage Company's beautifully renovated lobby, and the play dealing with an artist is the perfect use of our new building and a tribute to Horovitz's legacy."
