Artists on Artists

Artists on Artists is a monthly public lecture series where local artists present their work to the community and participate in a dialogue with the audience on the values and ideas behind their work.

Partner with an Artist

The goals of Partner with an Artist are to:

  • Create innovative, nontraditional arts events that showcase high-quality, alternative work and help establish Gloucester as a new site for contemporary art.
  • Facilitate opportunities for artists and businesses to engage in collaborations leading to the creation of new artwork and of marketing and economic opportunities for artists and businesses.
  • Introduce businesses to the benefits of cultural economic development, and create an environment that is ripe for future collaborations and partnership growth.

Residency Program

In 2005, seARTS and the Rocky Neck Art Colony (RNAC) established a new residency program to (1) encourage artists from outside the Rocky Neck Art Colony to come to Rocky Neck and to interact in a collegial and mutually beneficial way with the artists and other interested residents of Rocky Neck and Cape Ann, (2) extend the range and reputation of the plein air, marine and landscape traditions of the RNAC and Cape Ann through interaction with artists of other traditions and media.

Housing and studio space was provided for four visual artists who gave public presentations and studio tours. In 2006 seARTS will again support collaborator RNAC with the highly successful residency program as a means of revitalizing Rocky Neck to be an economically viable place for artists. The artists’ studios were located in the historic Gloucester Marine Railways Building, the oldest continually operating institution of its kind in the United States. The program was an example of a highly effective collaboration between the arts and industrial waterfront businesses.
